Backup Your Data

Are You Backing-up Your Insight Data?

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]ave you ever heard of situations like this: “My computer is dead, it smells burnt;” “My computer has been making noises and now it won’t start up;” “We had a power spike yesterday and the computers are dead;” ”I’ve been robbed, and my computer is gone;” or “My computer starts up, but there is nothing on it.” There are many more examples of what can happen to your computer and your software, but these are just some of the ones I have heard over the years.

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]f this has happened to you, you are probably more diligent about saving your data. But if you have been lucky, then there are a couple of things that you should do to protect your data. First, you should ensure that your system gets regular cleaning, and make sure your computer is not located directly on the floor (hair and water are really hard on computers). You should have a surge protector installed, and maybe even a battery backup. After that, some clients have a second hard drive located in their computer, called a Mirror drive or a Raid Drive. These work great, but if your computer gets damaged your data is still in that computer, so that solution isn’t ideal. Using a flash drive or memory stick is a manual option, and you would need to save that data nightly to your memory drive. Then you should remove it from the computer and store it off-site, or at your home. This works well, but it is a manual task.

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]e now offer a service called “Online Back-ups”. This is a great service, and it is designed to assist you if you have major computer issues. Your Insight data would automatically back up to our servers, nightly. If you have a computer failure, Insight Support will guide you on downloading a new copy of Insight. Restoring the data takes about 5-10 minutes. This is way better being stranded without your data for days, and it is a lot less expensive than trying to retrieve data from a non-functioning computer.
